There are times when you might be asked by Google to verify your login - especially if you're logging in from another, unusual location! Because of this, we recommend being prepared to authenticate your login with another device or method so you don't get locked out of your RK9 account at a key tournament!
Common Issues & Solutions
- Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) Inquiries and Verification
- Why It Happens: Google may trigger MFA when it detects a login attempt from a new location or device as a security measure.
- How to Handle It: You may be asked to verify your identity through one of the following methods:
- Google Prompt: A notification sent to your registered device for approval.
- SMS Code: A code sent to your registered mobile number.
- Authenticator App: A code generated by an app like Google Authenticator or Authy.
- Backup Codes: Pre-generated codes that can be used if other methods are unavailable. Ensure you have these stored in a secure, accessible place.
- Preparation Before Traveling
- Enable 2-Step Verification: Make sure 2SV is enabled on your account for additional security. This includes methods like SMS, authenticator apps, and backup codes.
- Check and Update Recovery Information: Ensure your recovery email and phone number are up to date to receive verification codes or recovery options.
- Generate Backup Codes: These codes can be crucial if you're unable to access your primary 2FA method. Store them securely, such as in a password manager, secure note, or with your other secure documents.
- What to Do If You're Traveling Without Access to Your Primary Device
- Bring a Secondary Device: If possible, carry a secondary device that can receive Google Prompts or SMS codes.
- Access Backup Codes: If you're unable to access your primary 2FA device, use your backup codes. Remember, these codes are single-use, so keep them secure and only use them when necessary.
Account security, protection, and access are your responsibilities. By following these steps, you can minimize disruptions and ensure you have access to your account wherever you are. If you encounter issues and can't restore access to your account, please submit a support ticket.
